About Me

Who Is Kent Nichols?

Hello friends!  I'm here to help you if I can.  I've been a diabetic for several years now.  Every day I wear my insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor.  For my first years, I took several insulin injections before making the switch to insulin pump therapy.  But like many of you, before diabetes I had big plans that got changed.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while attending college, where I was pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering.  At the same time I was a pilot and had plans on becoming an air show performer.  I wanted to design airplanes on weekdays and fly aerobatics for the crowds on Saturdays.  When diabetes struck, it literally grounded me for a long while.

Later, I obtained a Special Issuance Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration to fly once again...this time as a diabetic pilot!  I still study aerodynamics and look forward to aerobatic flying in the future.  But my focus is on my faith, my family, my friends and my health.  And yes, you all are my friends!

I wrote "Pump For Joy:  Learn What it's Like to Live With and Insulin Pump & Glucose Monitor" to share with others what I wish that I knew before going on the insulin pump and glucose monitor.  I have begun to write specifically on the subject of diabetes, as it relates to the individual's level.   We all can easily learn how diabetes works, but it can be a struggle to figure how to live with it smoothly every day.  I hope that my writings will be of help to you.  They will be available on www.DiabetesBookNook.com.

I am happily married and have two wonderful sons.  We love to camp, hike and spend time outdoors. Personally, I enjoy flying, scuba diving, inline skating, and sailing.  But most importantly, my faith is my most valued endeavor.  We're put here for a purpose I believe--to do something right and to be a servant to others. At least this is the goal.  I don't get it right every day, but I'm trying harder each day.  Thanks for stopping by and please let me know how I can help you better!
